How often do you publish a new volume?
Embers Igniting is currently published annually. We accept submissions in the fall and publish the volume in the spring. For our current deadline, see our Submit page.
Do you pay your contributors?
Contributors will receive a free print copy of the volume in which they are published.
What rights do you retain from a contributor’s work?
Embers Igniting never owns a contributor’s work; we only own a one-time copyright for the version of the contributor’s piece as it appears in our magazine (with our editors’ changes, etc.). In addition, we ask for permission to reproduce our contributors’ work in part or in whole for promotional purposes, such as inclusion on our website, for a period of three years.
Do you provide any feedback for submissions?
Yes! We provide detailed feedback for ALL submissions we receive. You can even ask for specific feedback when you submit your work. Dedicated writers and artists want to grow, and we want to help them.
What’s your response time for submissions?
We strive for a quick response time, generally two weeks after our submission deadline. However, depending on the number of submissions, response time can be as long as one month after the deadline. If you haven’t received a response by then, feel free to email us. Otherwise, please do not inquire as to the status of your submission.
Do you accept simultaneous submissions?
No, we do not accept simultaneous submissions. However, we promise to keep our response time reasonably short (see above).
I want to get more involved with Embers. How can I do so?
That’s awesome! If you’re interested in guest blogging for us, email us a query (see our Submit page for more info). If there’s something specific you’d like to see discussed in our blog or podcast, email us or get in touch via Facebook or Twitter.
I have a writing group/class–would you come talk about Embers or a specific writing or art topic?
We love talking to folks about the magazine, and we’re happy to go into specific topics if desired. Send us an email, and we’ll see what we can do.
I have a question I can’t find the answer to. How do I get the information I need?
Send us an email, or get in touch via Facebook or Twitter. We’re happy to answer any and all questions.
